Viking Fest 2026: Survival & Parking Guide

Viking Fest 2026 is Poulsbo’s legendary celebration of Scandinavian heritage, running from May 15–17, 2026. To help you navigate the crowds and the chaos, here is your definitive survival guide.

Viking Fest 2026 Events & Schedule

The festival kicks off Friday at noon and features traditional Norwegian food, timber sports, and high-energy contests.

  • Viking Village & Street Fair: Daily along Anderson Parkway, featuring craft booths and food vendors.

  • The Carnival: Located in the King Olaf parking lot. Hours are Friday (4–10 PM), Saturday (10 AM–10 PM), and Sunday (10 AM–6 PM).

  • Viking Fest Road Race: Saturday from 9:00–11:00 AM.

  • The Grand Parade: The festival’s crown jewel starts Saturday at 2:00 PM, running from 6th & Fjord to Front Street.

  • Eating Contests: Sunday morning at the Austin-Kvelstad Pavilion, including donuts and ice cream (10:00 AM) and the legendary lutefisk eating contest (12:15 PM).

Where to Park in Poulsbo (The Pro Guide)

Parking in downtown Poulsbo during Viking Fest is notoriously difficult, as most central lots are closed for vendors and the carnival.

  • The Official Shuttle: Take the shuttle to save your sanity. It runs from North Kitsap High School (1780 NE Hostmark St). The cost is $3.00 each way, with proceeds supporting local youth programs.

  • Outlying Lots: Limited street parking is available at Poulsbo Village (19351 8th Ave NE) or Jensen Street, but do not park in business lots during their operating hours.

  • Handicap Parking: Limited spots are available near the event, including the Edward Jones lot close to Front Street.

  • Road Closures: 6th Avenue is closed from Hostmark St to Fjord Drive on Saturday for the race and parade. Anderson Parkway is closed to all traffic for the duration of the street fair.

Viking Fest Survival Tips

  • Cash is King: While many vendors take cards, bring cash for smaller food stalls, games, and the $3.00 shuttle.

  • Parade Seating: Sidewalks along Front Street fill up early. Claim your spot by 1:00 PM if you want a front-row view of the parade.

  • PNW Layers: Poulsbo weather in May is unpredictable. Wear layers and bring a light rain jacket.

  • Lefse & Donuts: Visit Sluys Bakery early for traditional Norwegian lefse, as lines can wrap around the block during peak festival hours.
